Responding to his father's call to 'carry forward the flame of his faith,' Jean-Michel's Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society, a non-profit marine conservation and education organization, serves as a 'Voice for the Ocean' by fostering a conservation ethic, conducting research, and developing marine education programs.

The following is a listing of the honors and awards bestowed upon Mr. Cousteau for his work as a global diplomat for the environment:

2003 – Recipient of the first-ever “Ocean Hero” Award from Oceana

2003 – Induction into the International SCUBA Diving Hall of Fame

2003 – Member, U.S. Oceans Commission

2002 – Designated first-ever representative for the Environment, 2001 Winter Olympics at Salt Lake City, Utah

2001 - Explorer's Club Lowell Thomas Award recipient

1998 - National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Environmental Hero Award recipient, presented by Vice President Al Gore during the National Oceans Conference

1996 - SeaKeepers Award from Showboats International

1996 - John M. Olguin Marine Environment Award from the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium

1994 - DEMA's 1994 Reaching Out Award recipient

1993 - NOGI Award for Science from the Academy of Underwater Arts and Sciences

1991 - 1991 - Cable Ace Award recipient, "To Fly in Freedom"

1990 - First recipient of the PADI Environmental Awareness Award, Seaspace Film Festival, Houston

1989 – Palmeres des 7 d’Or (French Emmy Award) for Best Documentary, Cousteau’s Rediscovery of the World

Jean-Michel Cousteau Selected as First-Ever Symbol of the Environment: Represents Newest 'Principle' of the Olympics at 19th Winter Games
Salt Lake City, Utah, USA: Jean-Michel Cousteau made history tonight, becoming the first person to represent the environment in an Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games. Cousteau joined seven other highly esteemed individuals, who personify inspiration, in carrying the Olympic Flag into the stadium in Salt Lake City, where it will fly as a symbol of the principles of the Olympic games, which include sport, culture, and most recently the environment.  more
Jean-Michel Cousteau Receives the Explorer's Club Lowell Thomas Award
(New York, NY) - Jean-Michel Cousteau was presented with the prestigious Lowell Thomas Award by the Explorers Club for his contributions to marine exploration. Jean-Michel was honored as one of world's greatest undersea explorers along with twelve award recipients at the Award Dinner on November 28. Clive Cussler, renowned author and explorer, was the keynote speaker.  more
