SCHOOL PROGRAM: YMCA, POINT BONITA, MARIN HEADLANDS, CALIFORNIA, USA
Ocean Futures Society has partnered with YMCA Point Bonita Outdoor & Conference Center, a branch of the YMCA of San Francisco, to infuse Ambassadors of the Environment programming into YMCA Point Bonita’s Environmental Education Programs. The YMCA Point Bonita is an Educational Park Partner with the National Park Service in the Marin Headlands of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. All of YMCA Point Bonita’s programs are based on California State Science Standards and tailored to meet the individual needs of participating teachers and students.
The YMCA Point Bonita offers several educational programs for student groups on site at the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including a two-to-five-day residential “Outdoor Education Program,” a day-long “Coastal Trek Programs,” and a day-long “Hands On Science and Service Learning” project that incorporates community service into outdoor learning. The YMCA also offers in-classroom programs called “Urban School” and “My Home, My Community, My World” in which naturalists guide students and their teachers in an exploration of the ecological aspects of their school grounds.
