Snorkeling: Naturalists guide guests on snorkeling adventures through Maui’s coral reefs, exploring the connections between a variety of reef critters, the land and the sea, and humans and the coral reef.
Photography: Several activities offer guests chances to document Maui’s beauty with digital photography both on land and in the sea. Underwater camera housings allow guests to develop their photography skills in the realm of the coral reef!
Whale watching: Every winter humpback whales comes to the warm, sheltered waters around Hawaii to breed. Ambassadors staff provide a unique perspective of these seasonal visitors on whale-watching excursions.
Arts and crafts: Several arts and crafts activities show guests how to turn trash into treasures, using unlikely objects to make art. Guests learn how ancient Hawaiians used local materials in their traditional crafts.
Tide pooling: Explorations of tide pools reveal the amazing adaptations critters need to survive in this surprisingly harsh environment.
Hikes: Hikes through the rainforest and along coastal bluffs reveal the large biodiversity of flora and fauna that call Hawaii home. In hikes through the Maunalei Arboretum, guests learn about Maui’s watersheds and how land is inherently connected to the sea. In twilight hikes, guests learn about the nocturnal animals of Hawaii.
Hawaiian geology lessons: Model-making, native Hawaiian story-telling, and games teach guests how the Hawaiian Islands formed and how they are aging with time.
Star gazing: With the night sky as a classroom, naturalists teach guests how native Hawaiians used constellations to navigate their way through the vast Pacific Ocean.
Cooking adventures: Guests learn about organic food, composting and sustainable gardens in this tasty activity!
Sustainable living lessons: Guests learn about solar technology and other renewable energy sources, the three R’s (reduce, recycle and reuse), and what they can do at home to lead a sustainable lifestyle to minimize impact on the environment.
