MARCO ISLAND, FL The Marco Island Discovery Center, Inc. (MIDC) President, Lynne Irvine, signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society on August 1, 2009 to open an Ambassadors of the Environment (AOTE) camp on Marco Island in June 2011.

Savannah, GA “Call of the Killer Whale,” a two-hour episode of "Jean-Michel Cousteau: Ocean Adventures" on PBS, won the prestigious Best Broadcast Program or Series Award at the Blue Ocean Film Festival June 14th.

The film festival, one of the top natural history film competitions in the world and the only one dedicated to ocean films in the U.S., chose “Call of the Killer Whale” from among more than 200 entries.

Monte Carlo, Monaco June 15, 2009 Retour en Amazonie ( Return to the Amazon), a collection of 30 large-scale, limited edition images taken by Ocean Futures Society’s expedition photographer Carrie Vonderhaar, was inaugurated Monday June 15, in the presence of Jean-Michel Cousteau and the HSH Prince Albert II of Monaco in the Galerie des Pêcheurs.

Washington, D.C. - In a bold move that will have a lasting effect on marine life, President George W. Bush has assured his legacy in terms of preserving large portions of the ocean for future generations. Jean-Michel Cousteau was among the invited guests at a White House ceremony where the President announced his declaration of new Marine National Monuments.

This announcement follows Bush’s 2006 designation of the Northwest Hawaiian Islands Marine National Monument, which preserved 138,000 square miles of ocean.
