Celebrating 87 Years — A Personal Note from Jean-Michel Cousteau

Today, I’m filled with joy as I celebrate my 87th birthday in my home away from home—Fiji. This remarkable island nation, known for its rich and vibrant culture, warm hospitality, and the friendliest people on Earth, truly holds a special place in my heart. Fiji is not just a destination—it’s my happy place, and its people have become part of my extended family.

From the lush rainforests to the crystal-clear waters, Fiji’s natural beauty never ceases to amaze me. Beneath the surface lies a world like no other—the rainbow reefs of Fiji, bursting with the colors of vibrant soft corals and teeming with life, rightly earning it the title of the Soft Coral Capital of the World. I’ve had the great privilege of exploring these waters with my dedicated L’Aventure dive team at the only resort in the world that bears my name: Jean-Michel Cousteau Resort, Fiji.

Celebrating this birthday here, in a place where I can truly relax, smile, and embrace the simple joys of life, I find myself reflecting with deep gratitude on a journey that began when I was just a boy. For over 80 years, I’ve had the extraordinary honor of scuba diving and exploring the ocean’s wonders. And today, one truth stands out more clearly than ever:

The health of the ocean is essential to the health of all life on Earth. We are not separate from nature—we are a part of it. And with that truth comes a profound responsibility to protect it.

For me, it is simple: "Protect The Ocean And You Protect Yourself."
